The duality in meaning of the word light is where the design drew direction from. Light to both mean ‘airy’ or light to mean ‘bright’ was the perfect jump off point for designing a yoga studio. Formerly a warehouse, the design had to transcend the site’s original use. The aesthetics had to be simple, pragmatic, and straight forward so as not to detract from the meditative intention of the space. Calm and serene, the mostly white interiors are punctuated by exposed columns which added a modern and minimalist disposition to this predominantly Zen space. Working with what’s already there, through adaptive reuse instead of going to great lengths to hide all traces of its previous utility as a space, gives roots to the Zen aspect of the design—a form to and a physical manifestation of its philosophies. = Enlightened Design
